5 Creative Ways to Throw an Amazing Pride Month Party this June

Around the world, June is recognised as Pride Month to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots which occurred on June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Not only is it a time of historical significance, to reflect on and recognise the continuous fight for equal rights in the LGBTIQ+ community, but it is also a time to honour and celebrate diversity. And what better way to celebrate the colourful LGBTIQ+ community than with a rainbow-themed pride month party? It’s time to get loud and proud, so here are our top tips for throwing your very own colourful pride party.

1. Get Creative with Coloured Powder

Bring your pride month party to life with some coloured holi powder! Typically used to celebrate events such as colour runs and colour festivals, our non-toxic and stain-free powders are the perfect way to incorporate some rainbow fun into your celebration. Have your guests dress up in white clothing then cover each other from head to toe in a variety of coloured powders to create a colourful rainbow effect. It’ll make for a unique photo opportunity and memorable experience for all your guests to enjoy. One fun way to spread the colour around is to throw your coloured powder around during a dance party. 2. Blast the Gay Anthems

What’s a party without music? Your pride month party is the perfect opportunity to create a playlist featuring all your favourite LGBTIQ+ artists and gay anthems. Include your favourite pride songs as part of your coloured powder dance party or break out the karaoke and sing along at the top of your lungs to ‘Born This Way’ or ’I Will Survive.’

Don’t have time to organise all your favourite songs? Don’t stress – Spotify has plenty of pride playlists ready to go, so you can be sure your pride month party will have all the best iconic gay tunes.

3. Serve Delicious Rainbow Food

Get creative in the kitchen with the food dye by serving up some rainbow-themed snacks.

Some colourful food ideas include:

  • Rainbow swirl cake or cupcakes

  • Rainbow fudge

  • Rainbow spaghetti

  • Rainbow cocktails

  • Colourful fruit salad or vegetable skewers

  • Rainbow veggie pizza

  • Rainbow jelly

  • Rainbow cookies

  • Rainbow salsa dip

  • Your favourite colourful lollies e.g. m&ms, skittles, rainbow sour straps

The internet is full of delicious rainbow recipes so you won’t be short for ideas!

4. Decorate in Style

Bust out the rainbow flags because your pride month party needs some colourful decorations! You can get creative with the arts and crafts and make your decorations using rainbow streamers, balloons and DIY rainbow decorations. Some other ideas include a rainbow piñata and cutting out your favourite phrases to display e.g. ‘love is love’.

And don’t forget the glitter! (We can’t promise this will be as easy to clean up as the holi powder but it’ll make for a fun party nonetheless)

5. End the Party with a Pride Month Movie Night

When you’re tired out from all that dancing and the sugar crash starts to hit – it’s time to end your party with a Pride Movie Night. Netflix has a great selection of Pride films and TV shows for you and your guests to enjoy.

Some top picks include:

  • Love, Simon

  • Milk

  • The Half of It

  • Portrait of a Lady on Fire

  • Tangerine

  • Pride

  • The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

It’s up to you whether you decide to go for the feel-good movies or the tearjerkers!

We hope this list helps you to create a colourful and memorable Pride Month Party. Don’t forget even if you aren’t able to host a party, you can always donate to a local pride charity or educate yourself to support the LGBTQI+ community.
